Eastbourne is one of the most popular seaside towns situated on the edge of the South Downs.  This elegant resort has a wide promenade decorated by the famous Carpet Gardens, Victorian Pier, bandstand, theatres and a good variety of shops.

Our hotel is the Afton Hotel ideally located on the seafront.  All rooms are en-suite and have tea & coffee making facilities, hairdryer and telephone.  There is a lift although some steps may occur.  The hotel has an open plan bar, air-conditioned restaurant and there will be some evening entertainment.

Day 1:  We leave our local area, making comfort, coffee & lunch breaks on our way to our hotel, arriving at our hotel mid-afternoon.

Day 2:  Today we head off to Beachy Head where we will make a short stop to see the famous red & white striped lighthouse, then on through the Burling Gap and the fine views over the Seven Sisters Park to the old smuggling village of Alfriston.  It is here in the churchyard you will catch a glimpse of the clergy house. This 14th century medieval thatched cottage was the first property acquired by the National Trust for £10 in 1896.  We will then make a stop in Newhaven before continuing to Brighton for the afternoon, returning to our hotel in good time for our evening meal.

Day 3:  A day at leisure in Eastbourne

Day 4: Today we travel inland to Sheffield Park Station for a ride on the Bluebell Railway.  This line was reopened in 1960 with restored stations, steam locomotives and carriages.  There are refreshment facilities where you can have lunch.  Departing after lunch we stop in the county town of Lewes, here you may like to visit the castle or explore the delightful shops, museums, pretty cottages, gardens and hidden courtyards.  We return to the hotel in time for the evening meal.

Day 5:  After breakfast we make our way home, with comfort stops for coffee and lunch, before arriving in the local area late afternoon.

Northumberland is not only an area of outstanding natural beauty but also home to mighty castles, pretty fishing villages and bustling cities.  It is an uncrowded part of the country with some of Britain’s most spectacular and dramatic coastline and miles of sandy beaches.

Our hotel the Redworth Hall Hotel, Co. Durham is a Jacobean style country house hotel surrounded by landscaped gardens and woodland providing an ideal base to discover this unspoilt region of northern England.  All rooms are en-suite with tea & coffee making facilities, television, hairdryer, trouser press, free Wi-Fi and use of The Leisure Club.  There is a lift to all rooms, but some steps may occur. 

Day 1:  We leave our local area, making a comfort stop on our way to our hotel, arriving late afternoon where there will be tea and coffee for you.

Day 2:  Today we will take a ride across the Durham Dales, stopping off in the historic market town of Stanhope with its cobbled market place and standing on the banks of the River Wear.  We will stop for coffee at the Durham Dales Visitor Centre.  Then on through an area designated as Outstanding Natural Beauty.  (The North Pennine Region) to Alston, reputed to be the highest market town in England at 1000ft above sea level. After a short stop we will continue to Hexham for the rest of the afternoon before returning to our hotel.

Day 3:  After breakfast we head north to visit the award winning open-air museum of Beamish.  Ride behind an 1825 Georgian steam locomotive, go underground at a real County Durham drift mine, explore Pockerley Manor, take a tram back in time to the sights, sounds and smells of 1913.  Above all, meet the people of Beamish and enjoy the way they make history come to life.  We return to our hotel in good time for our evening meal

Day 4:  Today we travel the short distance to Durham for a free day to explore and enjoy this magnificent city.

Day 5:  After breakfast we make our way home, with comfort stops for coffee and lunch, before arriving in the local area late afternoon.

SEASIDE DELIGHT – YORKSHIRE STYLE

Bridlington’s two golden sandy beaches, lovely promenade, busy picturesque harbour and lots of local attractions all go towards making this a lovely resort for a perfect seaside holiday.  There is the famous Park Rose Pottery, World of Rock and the “Beside the Seaside Museum” to visit.

Our hotel is The Monarch which has spectacular views over the sea from its position on the sea front.  The hotel is in a prime location opposite the Spa Theatre and just a short walk to the town centre shops and the harbour is not far away.  All rooms are en-suite and have a hospitality tray.  There is a lift to all floors, but some steps may occur.

Day 1:  We leave the local area making our way north stopping for comfort and lunch stops en-route to Bridlington.  We arrive in time to settle in before our evening meal.

Day 2:  After a leisurely breakfast we make our way to Scarborough, next to the North Yorkshire Moors.  The town has two bays and is dominated by an impressive headland which has a Norman Castle on top.  There are lovely gardens, cliff top walks and a harbour.  We stay and have lunch before making our way to Filey, a quiet elegant resort full of Edwardian splendour, before returning to our hotel for the evening.

Day 3:  Today we have a day at leisure in Bridlington, one of Yorkshire’s best kept secrets, a chance for you to explore this charming town.  You can walk along the miles of level promenade and enjoy the seaside atmosphere of this traditional resort.

Day 4:  Our tour today will take us along the edge of the North York Moors to Pickering with its magnificent 12th Century castle. Travelling over the moors to Whitby, situated on the east coast of Yorkshire at the mouth of the River Esk, where we spend the afternoon

Day 5:  Bidding farewell to Bridlington after breakfast and begin our journey homewards.  Making comfort stops for coffee and lunch, arriving back in the local area late afternoon

ROYAL EDINBURGH TATTOO & LOCH KATRINE

Join us for this enthralling military spectacle with its feast of music light and colour in the beautiful surroundings of the floodlit Esplanade of Edinburgh Castle which provides a dramatic backdrop to this display of military precision & colourful costume. Day 1:  Departing northwards we head towards Scotland stopping for comfort breaks and lunch en-route arriving at our hotel in Erskine in good time for dinner. 

Day 2:  Today we travel through picturesque Scottish scenery to Aberfoyle where we enjoy a coffee break before continuing via the Archray Forest and Dukes Pass to Loch Katrine There will be free time for refreshment before we board the legendry steam cruiser the ‘Sir Walter Scott’ for an hour sail.   We continue to enjoy the wonderful scenery as we take a break in Callander, the capital of the region.

.Day 3:  We travel to Edinburgh after breakfast where we have a guided tour of the city.  The afternoon and early evening will be at leisure in Edinburgh where you could explore the underground tunnels, hop on a local bus to visit The Royal Yacht Britannia at Leith, or just stroll around the city soaking up the atmosphere before rejoining the coach for the evening performance of the Tattoo where you will be enthralled by this colourful military spectacular.  Returning to our hotel by late evening.

Day 4:  We leave Erskine today heading back to England with comfort stops on the way home, arriving in our local area by early evening.

HISTORIC HASTINGS

Hastings is on the South Coast and grew from a small settlement between the East and West Hills. Hastings was attacked by the French during the Hundred Years War, and in 1377, a second attack all but destroyed the town. The Old Town's architecture ranges from Medieval to Victorian. One of the oldest buildings, the Court House is believed to have been built around 1450. There are ancient churches and the Old Town Hall, which now houses a museum. There are lots of passages and narrow streets (called twittens) that are worth exploring that go off the Old Town High Street.

The Chatsworth Hotels is a classic seaside hotel and an iconic Hastings landmark just seconds away from the town centre and the old fishing port.   All rooms are en-suite with tea/coffee making facilities, Satellite TV, hairdryer and free Wi-Fi in public areas.  The bedrooms are situated on 3 floors with lift access to all.

Day 1:  We leave our local area, taking a leisurely drive down to the South Coast making a comfort break at Tunbridge Wells on our way, arriving at our hotel late afternoon.

Day 2:  Today we visit Leeds Castle, acclaimed as the most romantic castle in England.  It was originally a manor for the Saxon Royal family possibly as early as the reign of Ethelbert IV (856-860)   After an enjoyable day out, we head back to our hotel in time for evening dinner.

Day 3:  Day of leisure in Hastings

Day 4:   Departing after breakfast we head along the coast via the medieval towns of Winchelsea and Rye where we make a short stop before continuing to 1066 Battle of Hastings, Abbey & Battlefield where reminders of the ‘Battle of Hastings’ beginning the Norman Conquest can be seen in the Abbey.

Day 5:  After Breakfast we must head home, making comfort and lunch breaks along the way back to our local area.

Weymouth is a traditional seaside town.  It is full of charm with narrow streets lined with quaint old and new shops.  Weymouth is best known for its picturesque old harbour, Portland Bill, Chesil Beach and a rich rural history.  Weymouth is located on a coast known as the Jurassic Coast which has been designated as an area of outstanding beauty.

Our hotel, The Russell, is situated right on the esplanade facing the sea.  It is only a short walk from the town centre.  All bedrooms are en-suite, have a hospitality tray and TV.  There is a lift to all floors, but some stairs may occur.  It has its own bar.

Day 1:  After our local pick up points we head towards the south coast.  Making stops for coffee and lunch, we make our way to Weymouth and our hotel ready for our evening meal.

Day 2:  Today we will spend a leisurely morning in Poole.  Then after lunch we will cross via the Sandbanks Ferry to Swanage and head to Lulworth Cove for the afternoon before heading back to the hotel.

Day 3:  Spend the day at leisure in Weymouth, where you can visit Brewers Quay an arts, crafts and antiques emporium that has over 120 retailers selling antiques, locally made arts and crafts and high quality locally sourced and produced Cornish food.

Day 4:  After breakfast we head for the Tank Museum in Wool, there are over 250 vehicles to see and visit the shop and café. After lunch we will spend the afternoon in Wareham where you can relax at the Quay and around the town centre before heading back to the hotel.

 Day 5:  Leaving Weymouth, we head home, making comfort stops and lunch break along the way.  Reaching our local area mid-late afternoon.

The Harrogate Flower show is one of the premier shows of its kind in the country.  This extravagant flower show set on the Yorkshire County Showground on the outskirts of Harrogate will provide you with an amazing display of spectacular show gardens, horticultural exhibits and flower arranging demonstrations.  There is an abundance of all types of flowers, bulbs, plants, shrubs and many other gardening items on display and for sale.

Day 2:  A full day at the Harrogate Autumn Flower Show for you to explore all the many attractions from plants and flowers to the huge range of gardening accessories.  Held on the Great Yorkshire Showground this show marks the end of the UK’s Horticultural Show season and with over 70% of the show under cover there is no need to worry about the weather.

Day 3:  Day at leisure to explore the Spa town of Harrogate renowned for its beautiful gardens, Royal Baths, Victorian Pump Room, High Street shops and quaint boutiques and don’t forget a visit to the famous Bettys Tea rooms.

Day 4:  Today we must begin our journey home making comfort stop en-route and a break for lunch at Rufford Park on the edge of Sherwood Forest, arriving back in our local area late afternoon.

Shanklin is situated on the cliffs bordering the south-east coast of the Isle of Wight and is sheltered to the west by high-lying downs.  The town is connected by a cliff lift with the old village lying on the clifftop and the beach below.

The Shanklin Hotel is situated in Shanklin town with superb views from its magnificent Starlight Restaurant.  There is entertainment most evenings in the bar lounge, an indoor swimming pool, whirlpool & sauna and a games room and indoor bowls area.  All rooms have tea & coffee making facilities, telephone, hairdryer, TV and en-suite with a bath or shower.  Lift serves most rooms, but there may be some steps.  Shanklin old village is a few minutes’ walk away and the beach is accessible via the nearby cliff lift.

Day 1:  Departing from our local pick up points, our journey will take us to the south coast for our crossing of the Solent by ferry, then on to our hotel in good time for dinner.

Day 2:  A morning visit to Godshill with its numerous tea shops, pretty thatched cottages and its famous model village.  We continue to Newport for lunch, geographically the centre of the island, before we spend some free time in Ryde with its glorious sands and shallow coastal waters.

Day 3:  A day at leisure in Shanklin to wander around this lovely resort

Day 4:  After breakfast we take a journey back in time with a ride on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway.    We join at the railway’s main station at Havenstreet, where there is a small museum and shop, board for a return journey on a section of the old Ryde to Newport line.  This afternoon we enjoy some leisure time in Sandown

Day 5:  After breakfast we depart on our homeward journey, via the ferry with lunch stop in Winchester en-route back to our local area late afternoon.

Visit Arran, ‘Scotland in Miniature’ which is one of Scotland’s most beautiful islands, and the wonderful Ayrshire Coast.  With its miles of sandy, unspoilt, rugged coastline, you’ll be captivated by the scenery when you stay in the west coast of Scotland

Our hotel is the Hallmark Hotel, Irvine.  All rooms are en-suite, tea/coffee making facilities also a hospitality tray, flat screen TV, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, plus free Wi-Fi. The hotel has over 60 ground floor rooms, but does not have a lift.  Entertainment will be provided on two nights.

Day 1:  Departing from our local pick up points we travel northwards, with comfort stops en-route to our hotel.  Tea/Coffee with Shortbread will be served on arrival.

Day 2:  After breakfast we head to Ardrossan taking a ferry across to the Isle of Arran where we enjoy a scenic excursion around the island, experience some of Arran’s many unique and independent retailers.

Day 3:  Enjoy the Ayrshire coast at its best, visit Alloway and the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum, which consists of Burns Cottage where the poet was born, a collection of his life and works, Burns Monument, Statue House & Gardens, the Auldkirk and Brig o’ Doon bridge.  We will continue to Ayr for a short stop before arriving back at our hotel.

Day 4:  Today we spend the day at leisure in the cosmopolitan city of Glasgow. Where all the major museums and galleries are free to visit. With gardens, parks, historic buildings, the city is bursting with things to do.  To save your legs, you could even use the Open Top Bus tour.

Day 5:  We must leave this lovely part of Scotland and make our way back home. Stopping for comfort breaks along the way, we arrive back in the local area early evening.

During the First World War, Ypres was the site of a series of battles that were to be decisive in the outcome of the ‘War to End All Wars’.  It is difficult to imagine the suffering and the sacrifice that took place.  2018 will be the final year of the WW1 centenary events and you can visit trenches and cemeteries along with an informative Battlefields guide bringing stories to life.

The Mecure Lille Roubaix Grand Hotel is situated in the very heart of Roubaix.  It is an Art Deco style building with archetypal moldings, columns and glasswork.  This stylish and charming hotel is just 500m from the TGV station and just a few metres from the Metro station. The rooms are equipped with a flat-screen TV and international channels, free WIFI and tea/coffee making facilities.  Bathroom with shower or bath and hairdryer.  Lift to all floors

Day 1:  Picking up from our local area we travel with comfort stops to Dover for our ferry crossing to Dunkirk.  We will stay in Dunkirk scene of the historic evacuation of the British Expeditionary Force from France in May 1940. Dunkirk Town Cemetery contains 460 Commonwealth burials of the First World War, ten of them unidentified, before travelling to our hotel in Roubaix arriving in time for evening meal.

Day 2:  We begin our morning in Ypres where you can visit the ‘In Flanders Fields’ Museum, which is Located in the former Cloth Hall of Ypres.  In the afternoon we take a guided tour of the Flanders Battlefields around the ’14-18 Route’.  Stopping at Essex Farm and Langemarck Cemetery before visiting Tyne Cot Cemetery which is the largest Commonwealth cemetery in the world. 

Day 3:  Today we spend the day touring The Somme Battlefields with a Guide. Visiting Lochnager Crater, Thiepval Memorial and Newfoundland Park which remembers the Newfoundlanders, French, British and German Armies who died on this site.  In the afternoon, we visit Wellington Quarries in Arras, a large system underground tunnels used by British Troops in the First World War with many original artefacts and stories.

Day 4:  After breakfast we commence our journey home, stopping at La Coupole, near Saint-Omer (entrance not included) one of the most impressive remnants of the Second World War in Europe.  It is a symbolic place of the Nazi oppression.   We will then continue onto Calais to catch the ferry back to Dover, making comfort stops en-route arriving at our local area in the evening.

This is a tour full of variety and different landscapes.  The medieval town of Chester and the scenic Peak District.

 The 4 Star characterful Shrigley Hall Hotel is situated on the edge of the Peak District in a 262-acre estate with breathtaking views over the Cheshire Plain.  All rooms are en-suite with tea/coffee making facilities, colour TV and hairdryer.  There is a lift in part of the hotel although some steps may occur and there are extensive leisure facilities including indoor pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and gym.

Day 1:  We make our way to the western side of the Peak District with comfort and lunch stop en-route, taking in the sights of Ladybower Reservoir and Snake Pass reaching our hotel late afternoon. Tea/Coffee will be served on arrival.

Day 2:  This morning we head to the picturesque market town of Bakewell, home of the famous Bakewell pudding.  We spend the afternoon at Crich Tramway Village which has plenty to see and where you can enjoy a mile-long vintage tramway through a recreated village to open countryside with panoramic views over the Derwent Valley.

Day 3:  We visit the beautiful town of Chester, close to the Welsh border, one of the best preserved walled cities famous for its medieval buildings and the ‘Rows’, a unique half-timbered gallery of shops with some buildings dating back to the 13th Century.

Day 4:  Today we head into the Peak District and across Saddleworth Moor and make our way to Holmforth (home to Last of the Summer Wine).  We spend the morning here before moving onto Glossop where we spend the afternoon. We make our way back to the hotel in time to relax before the evening meal.

Day 5:  We must begin our journey home stopping in Chesterfield for a comfort stop before arriving at our local area in the afternoon.

THE CHANNEL ISLANDS - ST. HELIER, JERSEY

Jersey is the most southerly island of the British Isles and the largest of the Channel Islands, located 100 miles south of mainland Britain yet only 14 miles off the coast of France.  Rich in natural beauty and history, Jersey enjoys a mild climate where the surrounding Atlantic Ocean dominates the landscape with majestic cliffs, sandy beaches and rocky coves.  Visit its magnificent medieval castles, meander along the endless cliff top walks or relax in the beautiful gardens of Howard Davies park or Coronation Park.  Shopping is a real delight in the traffic free precinct of St. Helier.

Days 2 – 5:  Enjoy the hotel facilities, shopping in St. Helier and relax on the vast sandy beaches or if you wish to explore the island a courier will be available to advise you of optional tours and excursions.  You may visit the world-famous Jersey Zoo, the War Tunnels or follow the narrow paths and lanes that will take you through charming villages to sites of great natural beauty.

Day 6:  Depart by coach to the harbour for your return crossing.  Our coach will be waiting for you at Poole, with comfort stops en-route we arrive back in our area by late evening.

The village of Shap consists mainly of two long lines of grey stone houses, many dating from the 18th century. In the centre of the village is the market hall, with its curious windows and rounded arches, dating from a few years after the village was granted its market charter in 1687.

Our hotel Shap Wells Hotel is in a secluded wooded valley, high in the Shap Fells and surrounded by mountain streams. All bedrooms are en-suite and equipped with TV, alarm clock and complimentary tea and coffee making facilities and free Wi-Fi. There is a lift, but some step may occur.

Day 1:  We begin our journey north making comfort breaks and a stop for lunch before we arrive at our hotel in good time for our evening meal.

Day 2:  In the morning we visit Sizergh Castle and Gardens. The castle is grade 1 listed and set in acres of beautifully landscaped gardens. Still lived in by the Strickland family.  Returning to our hotel we stop at the historic town of Kendal, famous for its narrow lanes and Kendal Mint Cake. 

Day 3:  After breakfast we travel via Newby Bridge to Coniston where we join the steam yacht “Gondola” for a leisurely 45-minute round trip across the water taking in the spectacular scenery of the Coniston fells.  In the afternoon we will visit Grasmere, Wordsworth’s birthplace and Bowness on Windermere, home to the World of Beatrix Potter.

Day 4:  Today we tour the northern Lake District towards Cockermouth where we will stop for free time and lunch.  In the afternoon we return to our hotel via Keswick.

Day 5:   Leaving this beautiful part of England we head home, making comfort stops and a break for lunch before reaching our local area late afternoon.

Newquay is on the North Cornwall coast and benefits from the warm Atlantic Gulf Stream making this an ideal all year-round holiday destination and one of Cornwall’s most popular resorts.  Watch the fishermen bringing in the catch of the day in the picturesque harbour, take a cliff top walk, stroll along the beach or a wander around the shops and cafés.

Our hotel is The Barrowfield, ideally located just 200 yards from Tolcarne beach, considered one of the best in the area and only a short 10-minute stroll from Newquay town centre. The hotel has its own heated indoor swimming pool with hot tub and sauna.  The entertainment room features live entertainment every night. All rooms are en-suite shower or bath with shower, flat screen TV and tea/coffee making facilities.  A lift serves all rooms.

Day 2:  After a leisurely breakfast we travel to Falmouth, renowned for its maritime heritage.  After spending time in Falmouth, we visit Trebah Gardens, one of the great gardens of Cornwall and rated among the 80 finest gardens in the world. This sub-tropical paradise has a stunning coastal backdrop and its very own secluded private beach on the Helford River with views stretching out to the open sea.  We return to the hotel in time to relax before our evening meal.

Day 3:  Today we travel to Pentwan, nr St. Austell to the Lost Gardens of Heligan, which 25 years ago was rediscovered from the brambles of time.  Today, Heligan remains one of the most loved and romantic gardens in the UK, appreciated for its beauty and mystery.  There is a Kitchen & Bakery where you can eat and drink.  A full day is spent here before making our way back to Newquay in time for our evening dinner.

Day 4:  After a leisurely breakfast we head to Padstow, home to the famous chef Rick Stein.  The harbour is undoubtedly the strongest attraction, where fishing and pleasure craft rock side-by-side on their moorings, there are seats and cafés which overlook the calm water.  After spending the morning here we make our way back to Newquay for an afternoon at leisure to enjoy the sights.

Day 5:  After breakfast we must begin our journey home. We make comfort stops for coffee and lunch en-route and hope to arrive back in the local area mid-late afternoon.

Day 1:  Leaving our local area we make our way north taking comfort stops en-route before reaching our hotel. After dinner we board the coach for our Illuminations Tour.  Nearly 400,000 lights make up a fascinating array of feature displays that glitter along the seafront.

Day 2:  Today, we spend the day at leisure in Blackpool, where you may like to take a refreshing walk along the level promenade, visit the iconic tower or catch a tram to take in the resorts many famous landmarks. Returning in time to relax before enjoying a Christmas dinner followed by dancing and entertainment. A Firework display, which can be seen from the front of the hotel, is being held nearby.

Day 3:   After enjoying a relaxing Sunday morning there will be Lunch for you at the Hotel today.  After lunch we take a short journey to the neighbouring towns of Lytham and St. Annes-on-the-Sea which have grown together and now form a seaside resort. Heading back to the hotel for your Sunday Dinner and an evening of optional Fancy dress with Bubbly at 11pm

Day 4:  After breakfast we leave Blackpool and stop for lunch at Trentham Gardens, arriving home early evening.

We will be staying at Anchor Head Hotel, situated overlooking Weston Bay and close to the boating slipway and small beach; the promenade walk starts right next to the hotel.  All bedrooms are en-suite with tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer and TV.  Free Wi-Fi is available in public areas. Day 1:  We leave the local area making comfort breaks and lunch stops en-route, arriving at our hotel late afternoon.  The Weston-super-Mare carnival starts in the evening, with illuminated floats, marching bands, fancy dress walkers and entertainers providing an evening of fun.

Day 2:  After breakfast we take a scenic journey over the Mendip Hills to Cheddar Gorge.  From here we travel to Wells, the smallest city in England famous for its magnificent Cathedral and the unique moated Bishops place.  We return to our hotel in time for a Christmas Dinner followed by dancing and entertainment

Day 3:  Today is Remembrance Day, so the morning will be at your leisure.  There will be Lunch for you at the hotel, after which you could take a leisurely stroll along the promenade or just relax before a Sunday Dinner followed by an evening of optional Fancy Dress with bubbly at 11pm.

Day 1:  Departing from our local pick up points, our journey will take us to Ilfracombe.  Arriving at our hotel in time for a Sherry Reception, Evening Dinner followed by music, dancing and entertainment.

Day 2 Christmas Eve:  Today, after breakfast we take a tour of the local area. Lunch is followed by an afternoon at leisure in the hotel, or a chance to do some last-minute shopping.  Dinner is followed by dancing and entertainment.

Day 3 Christmas Day:  Morning at leisure.  Christmas Day traditional Grand Festive lunch with a visit from Santa.  The evening Dinner is followed by a Christmas Party.

Day 4 Boxing Day:  After breakfast, we take a tour of the local area arriving back in time for a pre-lunch glass of mulled wine followed by Boxing Day lunch.  Spend a leisurely afternoon before Dinner and a farewell Fancy Dress party (optional), dancing and entertainment.

Day 5:  We must leave this beautiful part of the country and start homeward.  With comfort stops for coffee and lunch we arrive back in our local area by late afternoon.
