Scarborough is Britain’s oldest holiday resort known as the ‘Queen of the Yorkshire Coast’.  Set on Yorkshire’s glorious north coastline it is a fine Victorian Spa town with one of the finest and safest beaches in Britain, and close to some of England’s most beautiful scenery.

The Delmont Hotel in Scarborough is situated with some views of the North Bay in this popular town.  All rooms are ensuite with freeview TV, internal phone and tea & coffee making facilities.  There is a lift although some steps may occur.

Day 1:  We begin our journey North, calling into Langland’s Garden Centre, Leeds for lunch and then continuing our journey, making comfort stops en-route

Day 2:   A morning tour along the coast road, past Bridlington continuing to York for a lunch break and afternoon visit. 

Day 3:   Spend the day at leisure in Scarborough

Day 4:   Today we head back in time and visit Eden Camp Museum.  Where you will experience war torn Britain, the sights, sounds and smells of life both on the Home Front and Front Line.  Italian prisoners of war built these huts in 1942 each one with a difference theme.  We then travel onto Thornton-le-Dale a pretty dales village with its old market cross, cafés and gift shops.

Day 5:   After breakfast we begin our journey home stopping in Chesterfield for lunch and then continuing our journey making comfort breaks en-route

Eastbourne is one of the most popular seaside towns situated on the edge of the South downs. This elegant resort has a wide promenade decorated by the famous Carpet Gardens, Victorian pier, Bandstands, Theatres and a good variety of shops

 

The Queens Hotel is situated in an outstanding position overlooking the pier. There is a lift to all floors (although the ground and lower ground floors are split level and some stairs are unavoidable). All rooms are en-suite and have tea/coffee making facilities, internal telephone, hairdryer and TV with radio channels. The hotel has its own bar where entertainment is provided most evenings.

 

Day 1:  Leaving our local area and making a stop at Teapot Island where you can enjoy a cream tea or lunch in the riverside café and if you wish visit the amazing exhibition of over 7,000 teapots on display. Continuing onto our hotel and time to relax before the evening meal.

Day 2:  After breakfast we travel to the attractive town of Battle which gets its name from the Battle of Hastings1066, we then travel onto Hastings where we spend the afternoon before returning to the hotel for the evening meal.

SCOTTISH BORDERS & THE LAKE DISTRICT - NEW DATE 21-25 SEPTEMBER 2020

Whilst historically linked to romance, Gretna Green is also steeped in history and magical charm.  Located in the Scottish Borders, it’s also a great base to explore England’s beautiful Lake District.

Our Hotel is the Gretna Green Hotel, originally built as a manor house is set in 10 acres of beautiful gardens offers all the character of a substantial historical building with all the facilities you would expect from a leading contemporary hotel.

Day 1:  We travel up to Scotland stopping for comfort and lunch breaks along the way.  With tea and coffee on arrival at Gretna Green Hotel.

Day 2:  This morning we make our way to the town of Selkirk in the heart of the Scottish borders were we enjoy a unique and fascinating behind the scenes guided tour of Lochcarrons Selkirk Mill to discover how tartan is produced, they have kilted numerous celebrities over the years, from Shrek to Sean Connery. We then continue on to visit the lovely genteel Borders town of Peebles, where you can enjoy an afternoon of leisure wandering in and about the alleyways and medieval closes or enjoy a stunning walk along the River Tweed.

Day 3:  A short drive to the Lake District today. Arriving at Pooley Bridge we join Ullswater Steamers for an hour-long cruise across Lake Ullswater to Glenridding, where we re-join our coach and make our way to Keswick.  There is time to explore and have lunch before continuing on to Cockermouth, the birthplace of Wordsworth, you could visit Wordsworth House and Gardens or look around the Memorial Gardens with the opportunity of feeding the ducks on the river Derwent.  We then head back to our hotel for the evening.

Day 4: A leisurely breakfast is followed by a short drive to the west of Gretna Green to the Devil’s Porridge Exhibition. Enjoy a fascinating insight into the history of how the largest munitions factory in the world came to be built in Gretna, the rest of the day is at leisure to enjoy exploring your surroundings.

Day 5:  After breakfast we say farewell to Gretna and make our way home, calling in to Oswaldtwistle Mills shopping village and Garden Centre, with crafts, flowers, furniture, garden and gift ideas before heading to our local area with comfort breaks along the way.

Llandudno is the largest holiday resort in Wales.  It has its own unique style and elegance.  It boasts two sandy beaches which sit beneath the towering limestone headland of the Great Orme Countryside Park.  It also has a wealth of shops in which to browse.

The Evans Hotel is family run and situated on the level in a quiet position near the center of the town and all its amenities and approximately 400 yards from the promenade. All rooms are en-suite with TV, hairdryer, tea & coffee making facilities. There is a lift, but some steps may occur.

Day 1: Departing the local area we make our way to North Wales stopping for lunch and some free time at Trentham Shopping Village before reaching our hotel in time to relax before our evening meal

Day 2:  After breakfast we head to Caernarfon for a scenic railway journey along the foothills of Snowdon to Porthmadog. We spend some time here before we make our way back to the hotel via Blaenau Ffestiniog & the picturesque village of Betws-y-Coed through the Snowdonia National Park enjoying the spectacular scenery.

Day 3:  Enjoy a leisurely day in this seaside town. Maybe take a stroll along the promenade, enjoy the shops, take a trip through time at the Llandudno Museum or a ride on the Great Orme tramway, Britain’s only cable hauled tram

Day 4:  This morning we enjoy a scenic coastal journey before driving over the Menai Bridge to the Isle of Anglesey, where we visit Beaumaris with its medieval castle, lovely beaches and Victorian pier we then journey onto the hidden world of Plas Cadnant Gardens before returning to our hotel for the evening meal

Day 5:  Today we make our way home via the medieval town of Shrewsbury where we stop for lunch and some free time before arriving back in our local area

The Caledonian Hotel, Newcastle is located in the heart of Jesmond a chic and leafy area one mile from Newcastle city centre. Day 1:   Leaving the local area we travel north with comfort stops and a lunch break before arriving at our hotel

Day 2:  After breakfast we visit Hexham voted best market town in the UK, with its striking cathedral. We then cross Hadrians Wall and spend the afternoon at Alnwick Castle and Gardens which date back to the Norman period, the castle has served as a film set for many films including Downton Abbey, Harry Potter, Robin Hood and Star Trek

Day 3:  After a leisurely breakfast some free time to explore one of Britain’s most iconic Cities, Newcastle famous for its industrial heritage, brown ale and “Geordie” dialect. After lunch a fantastic  1-hour cruise with commentary viewing the city’s famous landmarks including the Tyne Gorge and all seven bridges.

Day 4:  Today we travel the 30-mile coastal trail which takes in the popular fishing village of Seahouses, where fish stalls sell the best fresh seafood and then onto Bamburgh dominated by its mighty castle perched on a rocky crag. Along the coastline with mile upon mile of golden beaches we reach tidal Holy Island of Lindisfarne – the cradle of Christianity. Cross the 2-mile causeway (tides permitting) and explore this incredible island. See the Priory, the distinctive castle, sample Lindisfarne Mead or enjoy a drink in one of the village pubs

Day 5: Leaving our hotel after breakfast we travel for home with stops for coffee and lunch.

Day 2:  After breakfast we head north to visit the award winning open-air museum of Beamish  Ride behind an 1825 Georgian steam locomotive, go underground at a real County Durham drift mine, explore Pockerley Manor, take a tram back in time to the sights, sounds and smells of 1913.  Above all, meet the people of Beamish and enjoy the way they make history come to life.  We return to our hotel in good time for our evening meal

Day 3:  Today we will take a ride across the Durham Dales, stopping off in the historic market town of Stanhope with its cobbled market place and standing on the banks of the River Wear.  We will stop for coffee at the Durham Dales Visitor Centre.  Then on through an area designated as Outstanding Natural Beauty.  (The North Pennine Region) to Alston, reputed to be the highest market town in England at 1000ft above sea level. After a short stop we will continue to Hexham for the rest of the afternoon before returning to our hotel.

Day 4:  Today we travel the short distance to Durham for a free day to explore and enjoy this magnificent city.

Day 5:  After breakfast we make our way home, with a stop at Chesterfield, before arriving in the local area late afternoon.

Day 4:  After breakfast we travel to Chepstow where you can spend the morning at leisure, after lunch we start to head back to our hotel stopping at Norchard  the main station of the Dean Forest Railway were we take a return journey on a steam or heritage diesel train through 8.5 miles of the medieval Forest of Dean

Day 1:  We begin our journey north making comfort breaks and a stop for lunch before we arrive at our hotel in good time for our evening meal.

Day 2:  In the morning we visit Sizergh Castle and Gardens. The castle is grade 1 listed and set in acres of beautifully landscaped gardens. Still lived in by the Strickland family. We continue to the historic town of Kendal, famous for its narrow lanes and Kendal Mint Cake for a top before returning to our hotel

Day 3:  After breakfast we travel via Newby Bridge to Coniston where we join the steam yacht “Gondola” for a leisurely 45-minute round trip across the water taking in the spectacular scenery of the Coniston fells. In the afternoon we will visit Grasmere, Wordsworth’s birthplace

Day 4:  Today we head to the northern Lake District and stop in Keswick for free time and lunch. In the afternoon we make a stop at Bownesson Windermere home to the World of Beatrix Potter

Day 5:  Leaving this beautiful part of England we head home, making comfort stops and a break for lunch before reaching our local area late afternoon

Jersey is the most southerly island of the British Isles and the largest of the Channel Islands, located 100 miles south of mainland Britain yet only 14 miles of the coast of France.  British, yet with a strong continental influence, an ideal holiday destination without the problems of currency.  Rich in natural beauty and history, Jersey enjoys a mild climate where the surrounding Atlantic Ocean dominates the landscape with majestic cliffs, sandy beaches and rocky coves.  Visit its magnificent medieval castles, meander along the endless cliff top walks or relax in the beautiful gardens of Howard Davies or Coronation Park. Shopping is a real delight in the traffic free precinct of St. Helier.

AUTUMN IN EXMOUTH

Exmouth is a traditional seaside town on the east coast of Devon where the River Exe meets the sea, with golden sands, colourful gardens and a bustling harbourside with a two-mile-long promenade providing boat trips along the estuary.  The coast from Exmouth to Dorset has been officially ranked alongside the Grand Canyon and Great Barrier Reef as one of the natural wonders of the world.

The Cavendish Hotel is well situated on the level seafront next to Exmouth’s fine golden sands and a few minutes’ walk from the shops.  All rooms are en-suite with tea/coffee making facilities, hair dryer and TV.  The lift serves most rooms except the 4th floor although some steps may occur.

Day 1:  We leave the local area making comfort and lunch stops en-route before arriving at our hotel late afternoon.

Day 2:  After breakfast we travel to the Regency town of Sidmouth nestling beneath the majestic red cliffs and green hills of the Sid Valley.  Take a stroll along the beach, wander around the lovely Connaught Gardens.  We then move on to the coastal town of Seaton where we take a journey on the Seaton Tramway, a narrow-gauge heritage tram which takes you to Colyton travelling alongside the River Axe estuary.  The coach will meet you at Colyton to take you to Lyme Regis for some free time in this traditional seaside town.

Day 3:  Today you spend the day at leisure in Exmouth.  You may wish to visit the Model Railway or World of Country Life, take a cruise on the estuary or visit the shops. 

Day 4:  This morning we travel round the Estuary stopping in Dawlish where you may see the black swans, continue via Teignmouth and then take a tour around Dartmoor National Park stopping at Two Bridges where you have a chance to buy a Devon cream tea.  We head back via Exeter which claims to be one of the oldest cities in England, where you will have time to visit the magnificent cathedral or wander round the shops or winding lanes.  We return to our hotel in time for our evening meal

Day 5:  We must say goodbye to Exmouth and begin our journey home stopping for lunch and comfort breaks en-route, before reaching our local area.

Day 3:   Enjoy a leisurely breakfast then spend the day in Paignton or perhaps catch the train to the next town of Torquay with its palm tree lined promenade, shops, small harbour and sandy beach

Day 4:    Today we travel to Powderham Castle home to the Earl of Devon set within an ancient deer park beside the Exe estuary. Over 600 years of history can be discovered within the wall of one of Devon’s oldest family homes, we enjoy a guided tour and then some free time to explore before we travel onto  Teignmouth, a hidden gem on the South Devon coast steeped in maritime history with working harbour, Victorian pier and interesting back streets to explore this afternoon.

This evening we board our coach for our Illuminations tour.  Nearly 400,000 lights make up a fascinating array of feature displays that glitter along the seafront. Christmas dinner followed by dancing and entertainment.

    Day 3:   Enjoy a relaxing Sunday morning, there will be lunch for you at the hotel.  After lunch we take a short journey to the neighbouring towns of Lytham and St. Annes-on-the-Sea, which have grown together and now form a seaside resort.  Heading back to the hotel for Sunday dinner and an evening of optional Fancy Dress.

   Day 4:   After breakfast we leave Blackpool and stop for lunch at Trentham Shopping Village before arriving home late afternoon.

Day 1:  We leave the local area making comfort breaks and stopping for lunch before arriving at our hotel in time for our Welcome Party with a glass of sherry before dinner

Day 2:  After breakfast we travel to the south west tip of Cornwall to the picturesque town of St Ives to explore the narrow winding streets, magnificent coastal scenery and glorious beaches. After lunch we take a ride around the coast past Land’s End to Penzance where you have some free time before making our way back to the hotel for our evening meal and entertainment

Day 3:  After breakfast you have a day of leisure, then in the evening Santa is due to visit before you sit down for a traditional Christmas Dinner followed by entertainment

Day 4:  After breakfast we take a tour of Healeys Cornish Cyder Farm taking in the press house, jam kitchen, distillery, cellars and the museum. We then travel onto Truro for some free time before travelling back to our hotel

Day 5:  After breakfast we make our way home, taking comfort stops and a break for lunch, before arriving back in our local area

Day 1:  We leave the local area making comfort breaks and stopping for lunch before arriving at our hotel.  When you have settled in there will be a pre-dinner mulled wine drinks reception.  Live entertainment will follow into the evening.

Day 2:  After a hearty Yorkshire breakfast we visit the St Nicholas Festival in York.  This annual Christmas fayre, set in the historic square, has continued since medieval times.  The city comes alive with Victorian costumed traders, carol singers and delicious smells of the roasted chestnuts and hot chocolate laced with brandy.  Back to the hotel in time for a 3 course carvery-style dinner and yet another evening of great live entertainment.

Day 3:  Spend the morning enjoying the attractions Harrogate has to offer.  Please be sure to be back in the hotel in the afternoon where there will be a ‘festive themed’ mini afternoon tea and a glass of Festive Fizz.  There will be dinner again in the evening with live entertainment.

Day 4:  After a delicious full English breakfast, we head off to a German Market, Christkindlmarket in Leeds, where over 40 traders from Frakfurt set up stalls at one of the UK’s most established German Markets. Unique gifts, hand crafted jewellery and toys and traditional German delicacies including stolen, bratworst, gingerbread and gluhwein are available.  After dinner at the hotel there is live entertainment.

Day 5:  After a tasty full English breakfast we head home, making a comfort stop at Boundary Mills Store Grantham along the way.
